👎 thumbs down Skin Tones — All 5 Variants
The thumbs down is the mirror image of approval: disagreement, rejection or a clear “not this one”. Like its positive twin it is built around the hand, so all five skin-tone modifiers apply. A modifier here changes who is seen making the gesture — not what the gesture means — because the negative reading is the same in every tone.

Every variant copies exactly like the base character: tap a card and the sequence is on your clipboard, ready to paste anywhere. Skin-tone modifiers (U+1F3FB–U+1F3FF) were added to the standard in Unicode 8.0 (2015). thumbs down itself was added in Emoji E0.6 (2010).
Usage and context
It works best for lighthearted vetoes: picking between options in a group, voting down a suggestion, or teasing a friend who suggested takeout again. Adding your own skin tone makes the disapproval read as personal preference rather than an abstract verdict, which softens the blow in casual chats. In formal or professional threads the base yellow version is usually the safer choice.
The gesture is unambiguous almost everywhere, but intensity still depends on the reader: between close friends it can be playful, while in a work thread it tends to read as a hard “no”.
