👆 backhand index pointing up Skin Tones — All 5 Variants

Backhand index pointing up points at what is above: the previous message, a title, something higher on the screen. The backhand view puts the nail side toward the viewer, so the skin tone is literally the image — all five modifiers apply and are commonly used.

The five variants

Every variant copies exactly like the base character: tap a card and the sequence is on your clipboard, ready to paste anywhere. Skin-tone modifiers (U+1F3FB–U+1F3FF) were added to the standard in Unicode 8.0 (2015). backhand index pointing up itself was added in Emoji E0.6 (2010).

Usage and context

It directs readers to the message above, marks “this one ↑” in lists, and pairs with the pointing-down version to bracket a reference. A modified version makes it your finger; the yellow default is the generic pointer. It also appears with the eyes-up emoji in “look above” replies.

Benign everywhere. The only habit to avoid is using pointing emoji at people in conversations where pointing is considered rude — pointing up at content is never the issue.
