Emoji 0.6 (Unicode 6.0, 2010) is where standardized emoji began: the Unicode Consortium mapped the pictograph sets that Japanese mobile carriers (NTT DoCoMo, KDDI, SoftBank) had built over the previous decade into a single interoperable set. The classics landed here first — the red heart, tears of joy, the crying face, the party popper and the birthday cake — along with the zodiac, arrows, transport symbols and the first flags.
