Travel & Places
Travel & Places assembles 221 emoji on EmojiSelect: the maps and geography, transport, buildings, landmarks, weather and time symbols that describe where we are and where we are going. The Unicode layout separates place-map, place-geographic, place-building, place-religious, place-other, transport, sky-and-weather, and time — so planning a trip, describing the weather or setting a meeting time each has its own shelf.
About this category
The category carries a lot of planning weight. Itineraries are written in these glyphs: a ✈️, a 🚆, a 🏨 and a 🗺️ tell a complete story without a verb. The weather subset does double duty as the internet's mood system — a 🌧️ for a bad day, a ☀️ for a good one — and the time subset anchors schedules: 🕐 to 🕛 plus ⏰ and ⏳ appear in every shared calendar and countdown.
Our browse page keeps the Unicode order — maps, geography, buildings, religious places, transport, sky and weather, then time — so the 221 entries read like a travel shelf. Each landmark, vehicle and clock links to its detail page with codepoints, meanings and related emoji.

Why it matters
What makes this category easy to misuse is scale. Landmarks are generic by design — 🏰 is a castle, not a specific castle; 🗼 is Tokyo Tower by silhouette but often borrowed for Paris. We document which emoji have specific real-world referents and which are intentionally generic, so a trip story never misleads. Transport, meanwhile, grows with the roads: the pickup truck 🛻 arrived in Emoji 13.0 (2020) and the parachute 🪂 in Emoji 12.0 (2019).
Highlights
Maps and geography: 🗺️🧭⛰️ lead directions and outdoor plans.
Landmarks and buildings: 🏰🗽🗼 provide scenery; each page notes the specific referents.
Sky and weather: ☀️🌧️❄️ are the mood layer of the emoji language, read metaphorically as often as literally.
Time: the twelve clock faces plus ⏰⏳⏱️ cover schedules and countdowns, and the hourglass is the internet's standard shorthand for waiting.
How people use them
Announcing a flight: "Flying out Friday ✈️."
Planning a weekend: 🏞️ with a 🚗 and a 🏕️.
Setting a deadline: "By 6pm ⏰."
Sharing weather-mood: a rainy Monday is 🌧️ and a ☕.
